Share your Activity with your Apple Watch

In watchOS 3, you can share your Activity rings with friends and family for motivation. Compete to see who can close all three rings first or let your trainer keep an eye on your daily progress.

Add friends

To share your activity, you need to add friends. You can add up to 25 friends:

  1. Open the Activity app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Sharing > Get Started.
  3. Tap Plus icon and type your friend's contact information. You can also choose friends from the list of suggested contacts. You and your friends both need an Apple Watch and watchOS 3 to share activity.
  4. After you choose your friends, tap Send

When your friends meet all three of their activity goals, finish workouts, or earn achievements, you get notifications about their progress on your Apple Watch.

To check pending invitations, open the Activity app, tap the Sharing tab, then tap Sharing. After your friends accept the invite, they appear in the Sharing section of the Activity app on your iPhone.

View your friend's progress

After you start sharing your activity, you can check on your friends and help motivate them to meet their goals. To check a friend’s progress:

  1. Open the Activity app on your Apple Watch.
  2. Swipe left to view shared activity.
  3. Tap your friend, then scroll to see their progress. You can also send them a message.

Send your friends a message

When you get a notification about your friend's activity, you can reply with preset replies for encouragement. You can also send all your friends a message from the Activity app:

  1. Open the Activity app on your Apple Watch.
  2. Swipe left, then turn the Digital Crown to scroll to the bottom.
  3. Tap “Send message to all.”

To send a message to one friend, tap the friend, scroll down, then tap Send Message.

To mute notifications about your friend's activity:

Stop sharing or hide your progress

To hide your activity:

  1. Open the Activity app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Sharing, then tap the friend that you want to hide your activity from.

Get help with Activity Sharing

Activity Sharing requires iOS 10 and watchOS 3. If you paired more than one Apple Watch to your iPhone, the Sharing tab won't appear in Activity until you update all your watches to watchOS 3.

If you can’t add a friend, make sure that they have an Apple Watch and that you haven’t added the maximum number of friends. You can add up to 25 friends.

As long as your iPhone can connect to the Internet and you're signed in to iCloud, you can get updates about your friends’ activity each day. If your iPhone can't connect for multiple days or you sign out of iCloud, you might see missing days.
