About time zone updates on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, and Apple TV

If you have iOS 10, Watch OS 3, and tvOS 10, you can get time zone updates over-the-air on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, and Apple TV.

If the time zone on your device is set to a country that recently announced a time zone update, you might get a notification that a time zone update is available. You'll also get a notification if World Clock on your device has a city that recently announced a time zone update. To apply the time zone update, restart your device. Devices not using recently updated time zones won't show an alert, but will get the updated data the next time they restart.

If you’re using a time zone that announced an update but your iOS device or Apple Watch didn’t install the update, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that you're connected to Internet.
  2. On your iOS device, go to Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure that the correct time zone is set.

When you go to Settings > General > Date & Time, your iOS device will check for updates. From here, you can also see if an update is waiting to be installed. If you have an Apple Watch paired with your iPhone, this step will trigger your Apple Watch to check for a time zone update, as well. After the update downloads, restart your device to apply the update.
