About the USB-C Multiport Adapter Update 1.0

The USB-C Multiport Adapter Update 1.0 improves the compatibility and reliability of your Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter or Apple USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter. This update is recommended for all users.

Prepare for the update

  1. This update requires OS X El Capitan v10.11.4. Use the Mac App Store or Software Update to get the most recent version of OS X.

  2. Plug your USB-C Multiport Adapter into the USB-C port on your Mac. Make sure that your USB-C Charge Cable is connected to your adapter and plugged into a power source using your USB-C Power Adapter.

  3. Disconnect all external devices (such as displays, thumb drives, and hard drives) and hard-wired network connections from your USB-C Multiport Adapter.

Install the update

  1. After you plug in your adapter, the updater shows two choices via an alert in the upper-right corner of your display: Install and Not Now. Click Install.

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.

  3. When the installation is complete, click the Restart button that appears.

Your MacBook restarts and the Apple logo and progress bar appear. Your Mac then updates the USB-C Multiport Adapter. It takes several minutes for the update to complete.

When the update completes successfully, your Mac restarts into OS X.

Important: Don't turn off your computer or disconnect your adapter during this update.

Verify the update

After your MacBook restarts, you can verify that the USB-C Multiport Adapter update was successful:

  1. Click on the Apple menu and choose About This Mac.

  2. Click System Report. The System Information window appears.

  3. Under Hardware on the left side of the window, select USB.

  4. Under USB Device Tree, click on the name of your USB-C Multiport Adapter.

  5. The details of your adapter appear in the bottom-right field. If the number across from Version is 2.33, the update was successful.
