When you join Apple Music, you can play just about every song ever recorded*, and get experts to recommend the right ones for you. Plus, you can listen to radio with unlimited skips, and access your entire music library on all your devices.
Before you join
Before you join Apple Music, update your devices, back up your music, and decide if you want an Individual or Family membership.
Update your devices
Your membership gives you the full Apple Music experience on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC. Make sure that your devices are up to date:
- iOS 8.4 on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
- iTunes 12.2 or later on your Mac or PC. Get the latest version.
Back up your music
Back up your iOS devices, and your Mac or PC, so that you have a copy of your music and other information if your device is ever replaced, lost, or damaged.
Apple Music doesn't include a backup service, so make sure that you always have a backup of your music collection.
Consider a Family membership
With a Family membership to Apple Music, families of up to six people can enjoy all of the benefits of Apple Music, each with their own library.
To use a Family membership, you first need to set up Family Sharing. Then, when you join Apple Music, choose a Family membership. When your family members join Apple Music, they need to use the same Apple ID that they used to join Family Sharing. After they join Apple Music and sign in with their Apple ID, they'll automatically be added to your Family membership.
You can also change to a Family membership after you join.
