Find the serial number for your MacBook

You can find the serial number for your MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015) and later in OS X, on the surface of the computer, on the product packaging, or on your original receipt or invoice.

In OS X

To find the serial number in OS X, click the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. The window that appears lists the serial number.

On the surface of the MacBook

Close your MacBook and turn it over. The serial number is on the underside of the computer, to the right near the regulatory markings.

On the original product packaging

If you still have the original packaging for your MacBook, you can find the serial number on the barcode label.

On the original receipt or invoice

If you purchased your MacBook from an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store, the serial number will be on the receipt. Some other retailers might also include the serial number on your receipt.
