What is the Device Enrollment Program?
The Device Enrollment Program simplifies initial setup by automating Mobile Device Management (MDM) enrollment and supervision of devices during activation, enabling you to manage the devices without touching them. You can also lock MDM enrollment for ongoing management. For more information see the Device Enrollment Program Guide.
Who can participate?
The Device Enrollment Program is available to business and educational institutions in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and United States.
To use the Device Enrollment Program, your institution must purchase devices either directly from Apple, or from a participating Apple Authorized Reseller or cellular carrier. The individual who applies for enrollment must have the authority to accept program terms and conditions on behalf of your institution. For more information about enrollment requirements, see Device Enrollment Program Help.
How do I get devices into the Device Enrollment Program?
When you enroll in the Device Enrollment Program at http://deploy.apple.com you provide an Apple Customer Number (if you purchase directly from Apple) and/or a DEP Reseller ID (if you purchase from a participating Apple Authorized Reseller or carrier).
If you provide an Apple Customer Number, when your enrollment is approved you're able to manage all devices under that Apple Customer Number that you've purchased from Apple since March 1, 2011. New purchases are available for management as soon as they ship.
If you provide a DEP Reseller ID, you receive a DEP Customer ID when your enrollment is approved. Give this DEP Customer ID to your reseller, who will use it to submit information about your purchases to Apple. New purchases and previous purchases as far back as March 1, 2011 are available for management after the reseller submits your purchases to Apple. How far back your historical purchases are supported depends on the amount of sales history your reseller can provide to Apple.
Which devices can be enrolled in DEP?
Any Apple Mac or iOS devices purchased on or after March 1, 2011 can be enrolled in DEP. Mac or iOS devices purchased from participating Apple Authorized resellers or carriers must be added to your DEP instance to be included. All iOS devices must use iOS 7 or later, and all Mac computers must have OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later.
Once configured, automatic enrollment in MDM occurs at the time of device activation if a profile has been assigned. If a device has already been deployed (activated), you can trigger automatic MDM enrollment by erasing and restoring the device.
