OS X Mavericks: Installer doesn‘t accept blank admin password

When attempting to install OS X Mavericks, a blank admin password is not accepted; you may be repeatedly prompted to enter your password.

  1. Open System Preferences, then click User & Groups.
  2. Select your admin account, then click Change Password.
  3. Enter a new, non-blank password in the New Password and Verify fields.
  4. Click Change Password.
  5. Install Mavericks.
