If your iMac doesn‘t start up immediately

The first time you press the power button on your iMac, you might not hear a start up sound or see video for up to 30 seconds.

The first time you turn on your iMac, it configures its SDRAM power settings to maximize energy efficiency. The configuration process can take up to thirty seconds to complete, depending on the number and capacity of the SDRAM DIMMs installed.

Next time you turn on your iMac, it will take less time to start up.

Note: If you install additional SDRAM DIMM or reset the NVRAM, your iMac will configure the SDRAM power settings again.
