Mac App Store may become unresponsive when installing apps

When attempting to install apps from the Mac App Store, it may become unresponsive. This can happen if Spotlight indexing is disabled for the destination volume.

Ensure that Spotlight indexing is enabled on the destination volume:

  1. Choose Apple () > System Preferences...
  2. Click Spotlight.
  3. Click the Search Results tab.
  4. Ensure that the Applications item is checked.
  5. Click the Privacy tab.
  6. Make sure that the destination volume you want to install apps on is not listed.
  7. Close System Preferences. Spotlight will begin indexing soon after you make any changes to Spotlight preferences.
  8. Try your Mac App Store installation again.
