Move your iMovie for Mac (2014) library

Learn how to move your iMovie library to a new location.

Follow the steps below to move your library to an external drive or to a different location on your computer.

iMovie libraries should not be placed in a folder that syncs with online storage services such as iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or Google Drive, as this can damage some libraries.

Move your library

  1. Quit iMovie.
  2. In the Finder, choose Go > Home.
  3. Open the Movies folder. Locate the iMovie Library file.
  4. Drag the iMovie Library file to your external drive or a new location on your computer.
  5. Double-click the library file to open it.
