Crop your photos for print orders in iPhoto

When you order prints, iPhoto automatically crops your photos to fit the print size. Follow these instructions to have more control over how your photos are cropped.

If you'd like to keep a version of your photo at its original size, first create a duplicate version. Click the photo and select Duplicate from the Photos menu.

Cropping photos for print orders

  1. While viewing the photo you'd like to crop, click Edit.

  2. Click Crop.

  3. Check the box next to Constrain.
  4. From the Constrain drop-down menu, select the aspect ratio that matches the print size you plan to order. To switch between a landscape and a portrait crop, select “Constrain as landscape” or “Constrain as portrait."

  5. Drag the crop window over the photo to highlight the portion you want to include. If you want a smaller selection than the one shown, drag a corner of the crop window. When you’re satisfied with your selection, click Done.

If you plan to order different size prints of the same photo, create additional photo duplicates so that you can use an appropriate crop ratio for each print size. If you don't want to create duplicate photos, you can crop your image for your order and then revert back to your original photo. Once you're done with your order, go to Photos > Revert to Original.
