Redeem iTunes and Apple Music Gift Cards with the camera on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac

Before you redeem

Make sure that you're in a well-lit room and have an Internet connection. Only gift cards with a focus box around the redemption code can be redeemed using a camera.

This feature isn't available in all countries.

iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

1. Tap iTunes Store, iBooks, or App Store. In iBooks, then tap the Featured tab at the bottom of the screen.
   
2. Scroll to the bottom of the store and tap Redeem.
   
3. Sign in with the Apple ID that you use for iTunes Store purchases or your Apple Music membership.
   
4. Tap Use Camera. You can also redeem your code manually.
   
5. Peel off the label on the back of your gift card.
6. Hold the back of the card (the side with the black focus box) up to your camera.
   
7. The camera reads and redeems the code. Your iTunes Store balance appears onscreen, or you're asked to apply the credit toward an Apple Music Individual Membership.
   
8. In the upper-right corner, tap Done.

Mac

1. Open iTunes, iBooks, or the App Store.
2. iTunes: Click iTunes Store. Under Quick Links on the right side, click Redeem.
   iBooks: In the upper-left corner, click iBooks Store. Then, under Quick Links on the right side, click Redeem.
   App Store: Under Quick Links on the right side, click Redeem.
3. Click Redeem.
4. Sign in with the Apple ID that you use for iTunes Store purchases or your Apple Music membership.
5. Click Use Camera.
   
6. Peel off the label on the back of your gift card.
7. Hold the back of the card (the side with the black focus box) up to your FaceTime camera.
   
8. Your Mac reads and redeems the code. Your iTunes Store balance appears onscreen, or you're asked to apply the credit toward an Apple Music Individual Membership.
   
9. Click Done.
   

Get more help

• If the room isn't lit well enough, your gift card might not be readable.
• Completely peel off the coating that hides the gift code to improve readability.
• If your camera has issues reading the code, you can type in your iTunes or Apple Music Gift Card code manually.
  
• An error message will appear if you try to redeem an iTunes or Apple Music Gift Card that's already been used.
  
• Contact Apple Support if you see a message that your gift card hasn't been properly activated.
