Numbers: Supported file formats

Learn which file formats you can use with Numbers for Mac (3.0 or later) and Numbers for iOS (2.0 or later).

 Numbers for Mac and Numbers for iOS support importing:

  • Numbers ’09 (2.0 or later)
  • Microsoft Excel - Office Open XML (.xlsx) and Office 97 or later (.xls)
  • Comma Separated Values (CSV)
  • Tab-delimited text files

Numbers for Mac (3.0 or later) supports exporting:

  • Numbers ’09 (2.0 or later)
  • Microsoft Excel (.xlsx and .xls)
  • PDF
  • Comma Separated Values (CSV)
  • ZIP Archive (Supported in Numbers for Mac 3.1 or later)

Numbers for iOS (2.0 or later) supports exporting:

  • Microsoft Excel
    • Numbers 2.0 and 2.1 export a .xls file if your spreadsheet includes a password. Otherwise Numbers exports a .xlsx file.
    • Numbers 2.2 and later always exports .xlsx files.
  • PDF
  • Comma Separated Values (CSV)
