  • iMac G5 (iSight)
  • iMac (Early 2006)
  • iMac (Late 2006)

To find the serial number using software

On most computers with Mac OS X, you can find the serial number in the About This Mac window. For more information on this, or if the serial number doesn't show in the About This Mac window, see this article.

To find the serial number located on the computer

  • On the base of the computer
The serial number and Ethernet ID number with bar codes are on a label under the foot of the iMac G5 and iMac (Early 2006).
If you use this method to locate your computer's serial number, hold the sides of the iMac and gently lay the computer face down on a soft, clean towel or cloth.

  • iMac G5 and iMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor) only
If the back case of the iMac has been replaced, the serial number on the foot will no longer be accurate. In this case, you may need to open the iMac as the serial number is also printed on the midplane assembly. The following images show where the serial number is located - at the top of the midplane assembly, between the optical drive and the hard drive.

If the midplane assembly has been replaced, the serial number on the midplane assembly will not be accurate and you will want to use the serial number under the iMac's foot.

  • iMac G5 (iSight), iMac (Early 2006), iMac (Late 2006) only
If the back housing of the computer is replaced, write the serial number down and keep it in a safe place (or refer to Apple System Profiler).
