Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

Important

Complete outer display removal steps 1 through 4. Then continue to step 1.

  1. Use a torque driver and trilobe bit to remove eight trilobe screws, six from the input/output (I/O) board cowling and two from the I/O board grounding springs. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

    • Remove the I/O board cowling. Save the cowling for reassembly.

    • Lift the ends of the battery flex cable (1) and the outer display flex cable (2) off the connectors.

    • Caution: You must disconnect the battery flex cable first to ensure that the iPhone stays turned off.

  2. Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove three crosshead screws, one from the ambient light sensor cowling and two from the I/O board. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

    • Remove the ambient light sensor cowling and save it for reassembly.

    • Lift the end of the ambient light sensor flex cable off the connector.

    • Remove the outer display.

    • Place the camera cap on the outer front camera.

  3. Use a torque driver and super screw bit to remove five super screws from the I/O board. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

    • Lift the ends of the four flex cables that remain connected to the I/O board off the connectors.

    • Tilt the I/O board out of the enclosure to remove it.

    • Three screws (923-16057) (M1-M3)

    • One screw (923-16062) (M4)

  4. Use the gray torque driver and crosshead bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-16058) (L5, L6) into the I/O board.

  5. Use the green torque driver and trilobe bit to install two new trilobe screws (923-16043) (M5, M6) into the I/O board grounding springs.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
