Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

Caution

Wearing the gloves and covering the camera lenses to prevent contamination of the camera lenses is recommended.

Important

Complete back glass removal steps 1 through 4. Then continue to step 1.

  1. Use a torque driver and the trilobe bit to remove seven trilobe screws, two from the battery connector cowling (1), three from the logic board upper cowling (2), and two from the FaceTime camera cowling (3). Remove the cowlings and save them for reassembly. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

    • Lift the ends of the battery flex cable (1), back glass flex cable (2), and FaceTime camera flex cable (3) off the connectors.

    • Hold the back glass by the edges. Pull the tab on the suction cup to release it from the back glass. Then set the back glass facedown on a clean, flat surface.

  2. Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove five crosshead screws, four screws from the camera spacer and one screw from the camera. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

    • Lift the end of the upper antenna 4 flex cable off the connector and move it away from the camera spacer. Remove the spacer and save it for reassembly.

    • Lift the ends of the Wi-Fi flex cable and two camera flex cables off the connectors.

    • Remove the camera cap.

  3. Peel the upper antenna 4 flex cable from the camera just enough to access the super screw underneath. Then use a torque driver and super screw bit to remove two super screws from the camera.

    • Caution: Don't touch the camera lenses or the grounding springs.

    • Remove the camera from the enclosure. Place the camera cap on the camera.

Reassembly

Screw location diagram

  1. With the camera cap in place, position the camera in the enclosure.

    • Caution: Don't trap the upper antenna 4 flex cable under the camera.

    • Note: Remove the camera cap after the camera is positioned.

  2. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 14.5 Ncm. Then use the adjustable torque driver and super screw bit to install two new super screws into the camera in the order listed below.

    • 923-16036 (F1)

    • 923-16033 (F2)

  3. Press the ends of the two camera flex cables, Wi-Fi flex cable, and upper antenna 4 flex cable to the connectors.

  4. Position the camera spacer in the enclosure under the upper antenna 4 flex cable.

  5. Place the camera cap on the camera.

  6. With the torque value still set to 14.5 Ncm, use the adjustable torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-16060) (D2) into the top left corner of the camera.

  7. Use the gray torque driver and crosshead bit to install four new crosshead screws into the camera spacer.

    • 923-16046 (D1)

    • 923-16042 (C6)

    • 923-16063 (C5)

    • 923-16031 (D3)

  8. Position the FaceTime camera cowling and logic board upper cowling as shown.

  9. Use the gray torque driver and the trilobe bit to install two new trilobe screws (923-16049) (C1, C2) into the FaceTime camera cowling.

  10. Use the gray torque driver and the trilobe bit to install one new trilobe screw (923-16052) (D4) into the logic board upper cowling.

  11. Use the black torque driver and trilobe bit to install a new trilobe screw (923-16045) (C3) into the logic board upper cowling.

  12. Use the green torque driver and trilobe bit to install one new trilobe screw (923-16051) (C4) into the logic board upper cowling.
