Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

Important

Remove the back glass. Then continue to step 1.

  1. Use ESD-safe tweezers to grasp the battery adhesive tab. Gently peel the silver adhesive tab away from the battery at a 45-degree angle.

  2. Connect the red (positive) connector of the 9-volt battery to the adhesive tab on the iPhone battery. Then connect the black (negative) connector of the 9-volt battery to the lower right grounding screw on the bottom speaker.

  3. Hold the connection for 90 seconds.

    • Important: If the connection isn't secure, the adhesive won't de-bond. If either or both clips disconnect, restart the procedure at step 1.

    • Note: Adhesive removal time may increase during the product’s life. Adhesive removal can be accomplished by applying up to 30 volts, using alternate power sources such as DC power supplies. Higher voltage application will result in faster removal times.

  4. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the second adhesive tab.

  5. Use a suction cup or the black stick to lift the battery and remove it from the enclosure.

    • Caution: If you feel resistance while attempting to remove the battery, repeat steps 1 through 3.

    • Warning: If you can’t remove the battery, stop the repair. You can find a service option at support.apple.com/repair.

Reassembly

Warning

Visually inspect the enclosure for loose or extra screws and small parts that may have attached to magnetized areas, as these can damage the battery and cause safety issues.

  1. Use ethanol wipes or IPA wipes to remove all residual adhesive from the enclosure.

    • Caution: The adhesive is transparent. You must wipe the enclosure 5 to 10 times to ensure that the adhesive is removed. Avoid the silver area.

    • Note: After cleaning, minor discoloration of the enclosure is acceptable.

  2. Peel the release liner from the underside of the replacement battery.

    • Important: Don’t remove the protective cover from the top of the battery yet.

  3. Hold the battery over the enclosure and align the battery with the alignment shims. Then lower the battery into the enclosure.

  4. Remove the alignment shims.

  5. Remove the camera cap. Place the press plate onto the battery in the repair tray.

  6. Position the repair tray with the iPhone in the display press. Pull down the lever until the display press locks.

  7. Wait until the display press beeps and its timer shows 0. Pull down the lever and pull out the release knob. Then lift the lever.

  8. Remove the repair tray from the display press.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:

Warning
