iPhone 18 Pro Max Logic Board (without mmWave Antenna)

Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Crosshead 44 mm half-moon bit

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Logic board dock

  • Logic board dock insert

  • Nitrile or lint-free gloves

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (black, 0.35 kgf cm)

  • Torque driver (green, 0.45 kgf cm)

  • Trilobe 44 mm half-moon bit

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Caution

This procedure requires System Configuration. After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, follow the instructions to initiate System Configuration.

Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

  1. Use a torque driver and the crosshead bit to remove one crosshead screw. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

    • Important: Note the orientation of the grounding spring before you remove the screw. Then remove the grounding spring and save it for reassembly.

    • Lift the ends of six flex cables (1-6) off their connectors.

    • Lift the end of the LiDAR flex cable off the connector and move it to the left.

  2. Place the repair tray onto the logic board dock as shown. Align the two holes in the repair tray with the two pins on the dock.

  3. Place the logic board dock insert into the logic board dock. Ensure that the dock insert is in the flat position. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

    • Slowly tilt the logic board away from the enclosure, moving flex cables out of the way as necessary. Align the two screw holes in the logic board with the two pins on the dock insert.

    • Flip the lock mechanism closed to secure the logic board to the dock insert.

    • Caution: Don’t pinch or stretch the flex cables on the back of the logic board or in the enclosure. Avoid touching components on the logic board.

  4. Use a torque driver and the crosshead bit to remove one crosshead screw from the back glass connector cowling. Then complete the entire step.

    • Note: If you’re following the removal steps for an enclosure repair, the back glass connector cowling and back glass flex cable will already be removed.

    • Remove the back glass connector cowling and save it for reassembly.

    • Lift the end of the back glass flex cable off the connector on the back side of the logic board.

    • Press the release arm to flip open the lock mechanism and lift the logic board off the dock insert. Place the logic board on a clean, flat surface.

Reassembly

  1. Align the two screw holes in the logic board with the two pins on the logic board dock insert.

    • Flip the lock mechanism closed to secure the logic board to the dock insert.

  2. Press the end of the back glass flex cable to the connector on the back side of the logic board.

    • Note: If you’re following the reassembly steps for an enclosure repair, the back glass won’t be installed yet. Continue with this step to connect the mmWave flex cable and reinstall the mmWave connector cowling. You’ll connect the back glass flex cable and reinstall the back glass connector cowling during the back glass reassembly steps.

    • Position the back glass connector cowling over the end of the back glass flex cable. Hook the cowling over the end of the flex cable.

      • Caution: Ensure that the cowling tab is engaged before installing the screw.

    • Use the green torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-15881) (M3) into the back glass connector cowling.

  3. Press the release arm to flip open the lock mechanism on the dock insert to unlock the logic board.

    • Slowly lift the logic board off the dock insert pins and tilt it toward the enclosure. Position the logic board onto the lip of the enclosure.

      • Caution: Hold the logic board by the edges. Don’t pull or stretch the flex cables or pinch them inside the enclosure.

  4. Remove the dock insert from the dock.

  5. Remove the repair tray from the logic board dock and place it on a flat surface.

  6. Press the end of the upper antenna flex cable to the enclosure.

  7. Press the ends of six flex cables (1–6) to their connectors.

    • Note: Ensure that all seven flex cables are properly seated to their connectors.

  8. Position the grounding spring and ensure that it faces toward the camera lens openings. Use the green torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-15932) (M1).

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:

Caution

  • System Configuration is required if you’ve installed a replacement logic board. Disregard notifications about iPhone features on the Lock Screen until you complete configuration.

  • After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, initiate System Configuration by putting the device into diagnostics mode. Tap Start Session and follow the onscreen prompts.

    • You’ll have one attempt to complete System Configuration. If the attempt is interrupted, canceled, or encounters an error, the device will display a message instructing you to contact the Self Service Repair Store team for assistance.
