Before You Begin
Warning

Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)
Crosshead 44 mm half-moon bit
ESD-safe tweezers
Ethanol wipes or isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes
Nylon probe (black stick)
Super screw 44 mm half-moon bit
Torque driver (gray, 0.55 kgf cm)
Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)
Torque driver (orange, 0.85 kgf cm)
Torx Plus 4IP 25 mm bit

Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Important
Complete display removal steps 1 through 5. Then continue to step 1.
Use a torque driver and the crosshead bit to remove 14 crosshead screws listed below. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Remove two crosshead screws, one from the battery connector cowling and one from the display connector cowling.
Remove seven crosshead screws from the bottom speaker.
Note: The screw closest to the USB-C port is on the sidewall of enclosure.
Remove five crosshead screws from the Taptic Engine.
Remove the battery connector cowling (1) and display connector cowling (2). Save the cowlings for reassembly.
Remove the USB-C flex cable cowling. Save the cowling for reassembly.
Lift the end of the battery flex cable off the connector.
Caution: You must disconnect the battery flex cable first to ensure that the iPhone remains turned off.
Lift the ends of the display flex cable and ambient light sensor flex cable off the connectors.
Hold the display by the edges. Pull the tabs on the suction cups to release them. Then set the display facedown on a clean, flat surface.
Gently lift the bottom speaker out of the enclosure.
- Caution: Don’t damage the grounding springs on the bottom speaker.
Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 4IP bit to remove 14 4IP screws from the battery.
Lift the battery out of the enclosure.
- Caution: Ensure that the battery flex cable doesn’t get caught when lifting the battery out of the enclosure.
Move the Taptic Engine slightly to the side. Tilt the USB-C flex cable 90 degrees to the left to access the super screw underneath. Use a torque driver and the super screw bit to remove one super screw from the main microphone. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Gently tilt the Taptic Engine to access the flex cable underneath.
Lift the end of the Taptic Engine flex cable off the connector. Then lift the Taptic Engine out of the enclosure.
Use a torque driver and the crosshead bit to remove one crosshead screw from the main microphone. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Lift the end of the main microphone flex cable off the connector.
Separate the adhesive between the main microphone and enclosure as shown. Then lift the main microphone out of the enclosure.
- Caution: The main microphone gasket uses a strong adhesive. When separating the main microphone from the enclosure, don’t press or pull on the cowlings on either side of the main microphone.
Reassembly

Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove the gasket and all adhesive from the enclosure. Clean the area with an ethanol wipe or IPA wipe.
- Caution: Ensure that all residual adhesive is removed and the surface is clean and dry before installing the replacement main microphone.
Peel the adhesive liner off the replacement main microphone.
Position the main microphone in the enclosure. Press and hold the main microphone against the sidewall of the enclosure for 20 seconds to ensure that it adheres properly.
Important: Ensure that the main microphone gasket is positioned correctly and the screw holes are aligned before continuing to the next step.
Press the end of the main microphone flex cable to the connector.
Use the orange torque driver and super screw bit to install one new super screw (923-15923) (J4) into the main microphone.
Use the blue torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-15937) (J5) into the main microphone.
Gently fold down the USB-C connector flex cable. Use the blue torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-15933) (K2) into the main microphone.
Use the gray torque driver and crosshead bit to install two new crosshead screws (K1, J6) into the main microphone.
