iPhone 18 Pro Max Taptic Engine (pSIM)
Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
Remove the following parts before you begin:
Tools
Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)
Crosshead 44 mm half-moon bit
ESD-safe tweezers
Nylon probe (black stick)
Super screw 44 mm half-moon bit
Torque driver (teal, 0.75 kgf cm)
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.
Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Use a torque driver and the crosshead bit to remove 10 crosshead screws, 3 from the SIM assembly, 5 from the bottom speaker, and 2 from the Taptic Engine. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Note: The screw closest to the USB-C connector is located on the sidewall of the enclosure.
Tilt up the SIM assembly to access the flex cable underneath.
Caution: Don’t damage the USB-C connector flex cables when lifting the SIM assembly.
Lift the end of the SIM assembly flex cable off the connector. Then lift the SIM assembly out of the enclosure.
Lift the bottom speaker out of the enclosure.
- Caution: Don’t damage the grounding springs on the bottom speaker.
Gently tilt the Taptic Engine to access the flex cable underneath.
Lift the end of the Taptic Engine flex cable off the connector. Then lift the Taptic Engine out of the enclosure.
Reassembly

Hold the Taptic Engine over the enclosure and press the end of the Taptic Engine flex cable to the connector. Then lower the Taptic Engine into the enclosure.
Align the screw holes in the Taptic Engine with the super screws.
Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 13 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-15929) (J2) into the Taptic Engine.
Use the teal torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-15936) (J3) into the Taptic Engine.
Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
