How to move to an Apple Cash Family account if you're under 18

To use Apple Cash, you must be 18 years or older or have an account set up for you with Apple Cash Family.

If your Apple Cash* account was set up when you were under 18 or with an incorrect birthday, update your birthday and join a family sharing account to use Apple Cash again.

Confirm or update your date of birth

  1. Go to Settings, then tap [your name].

  2. Tap Personal Information. You might need to sign in to your Apple Account.

  3. Confirm that your birthday is correct, or tap your birthday to edit it.

  4. Update your birthday, then tap Done. If you’re changing a birthday from an adult to a child, learn more about converting to a child account.

Continue with Apple Cash Family

To use Apple Cash Family, you need to join an Apple Family Sharing group, close your Apple Cash account, then join an Apple Cash Family account.

Join a Family Sharing group

Ask your parent to invite you to join their Family Sharing group. If your parent hasn't set up Family Sharing, learn how to set up Family Sharing.

Close your current Apple Cash account

If your Apple Cash account has money in it, you can transfer the money to your external bank or make a purchase to spend your remaining funds.

With your parent, contact an Apple Cash Specialist at Green Dot Bank to close your Apple Cash account. If your Apple Cash account still has money in it, your funds transfer to the family organizer.

Join Apple Cash Family

Once you're joined a Family Sharing group and your Apple Cash account is closed, ask your parent to set up Apple Cash for a child or teen for your Apple Account.
