Apple Vision Pro and the Environment5

Progress toward Apple 2030

  • Apple 2030 is our commitment to be carbon neutral for our entire carbon footprint. Our plan to decarbonize products is rigorous and focuses on transitioning to low‑carbon electricity, designing with recycled and low‑carbon materials, and prioritizing lower‑carbon ways of shipping products, like ocean freight.

Materials

Apple Vision Pro is made with 20% recycled content,6 including:

  • 100% recycled aluminum in the frame and battery enclosure

  • 100% recycled cobalt in the battery

  • 95% recycled lithium in the battery

  • 100% recycled rare earth elements in all magnets

  • 100% recycled gold plating in all Apple-designed printed circuit boards

  • 100% recycled tin solder in all Apple-designed printed circuit boards

  • 100% recycled copper plating in all Apple-designed printed circuit boards

Energy

  • Exceeds U.S. Department of Energy requirements for battery charger systems7

Packaging

  • 100% fiber-based packaging8

Waste

  • No established final assembly sites generate waste sent to landfill as part of Apple’s Zero Waste Program9

Smarter chemistry10

  • All of the materials used in Apple products, accessories, and packaging are covered by the requirements of our Regulated Substances Specification, which was one of the first in industry to restrict the use of key substances of concern. See the latest Environmental Progress Report to understand Apple’s recent efforts in phasing out these chemistries.

  1. 1GB = 1 billion bytes and 1TB = 1 trillion bytes; actual formatted capacity less.

  2. Testing conducted by Apple in August and September 2025 using preproduction Apple Vision Pro (M5) units and software. Testing consisted of full battery discharge while performing each of the following tasks: video playback, internet browsing, spatial video capture, and FaceTime. Video playback tested in conjunction with an Environment, using 2D movie content purchased from the Apple TV app. Internet browsing tested using 20 popular websites. FaceTime tested between two Apple Vision Pro units with Personas enabled. Tested with Wi‑Fi associated to a network. Battery life depends on device settings, usage, network, environmental conditions, and many other factors. Battery tests are conducted using specific Apple Vision Pro units; actual results may vary.

  3. Mouse support requires visionOS 2 or later.

  4. FaceTime and Capture (for spatial photos and videos) are also preinstalled on Apple Vision Pro.

  5. Data accurate as of product launch.

  6. Product recycled or renewable content is the mass of certified recycled material relative to the overall mass of the device, not including packaging or in-box accessories.

  7. Efficiency performance is based on the U.S. Department of Energy Federal Energy Conservation Standards for Battery Chargers.

  8. Breakdown of U.S. retail packaging by weight. Adhesives, inks, and coatings are excluded from our calculations of plastic content and packaging weight.

  9. All established final assembly supplier sites — those that have been Apple suppliers for more than one year — for Apple Vision Pro are third-party verified as Zero Waste by UL LLC (UL 2799 Standard). UL requires at least 90% diversion through methods other than waste to energy to achieve Zero Waste to Landfill (Silver 90–94%, Gold 95–99%, and Platinum 100%) designations.

  10. Apple’s Regulated Substances Specification describes Apple’s restrictions on the use of certain chemical substances in materials in Apple products, accessories, manufacturing processes, and packaging used for shipping products to Apple’s end‑customers. Restrictions are derived from international laws or directives, regulatory agencies, eco‑label requirements, environmental standards, and Apple policies. Every Apple product is free of PVC and phthalates except for AC power cords in India, Thailand (for two‑prong AC power cords), and South Korea, where we continue to seek government approval for our PVC and phthalates replacement. Apple products comply with the European Union Directive 2011/65/EU and its amendments, including exemptions for the use of lead such as high‑temperature solder. Apple is working to phase out the use of these exempted substances for new products where technically possible.
