iPad Pro 13-inch (M5) TrueDepth Camera

Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
The TrueDepth camera includes one or more lasers. Disassembly of the TrueDepth camera, damage to the TrueDepth camera, or failure to use genuine Apple parts could expose you to hazardous infrared laser emissions, possibly resulting in injuries to eyes or skin.
Remove the following part before you begin:
Tools
Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)
Crosshead 44 mm half-moon bit
ESD-safe tweezers
Ethanol wipes or isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes
Nitrile or lint-free gloves
Nylon probe (black stick)
Torque driver (black, 0.35 kgf cm)
Torx Plus 3IP 25 mm bit
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.
Important
If you replace this part, it is required to run Repair Assistant in order to enable security features. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.
Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Remove the covers from the TrueDepth camera connector cowling and save them for reassembly.
Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove the four crosshead screws from the TrueDepth camera connector cowling. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.
Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws from the TrueDepth camera. Then lift the three ends of the TrueDepth camera flex cables off the connectors.
Gently pry the TrueDepth camera to remove it from the enclosure.
Reassembly
Caution
Put on the gloves to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.
Use an ethanol wipe or IPA wipe to remove all residual adhesive in the TrueDepth camera area.
Peel the adhesive liner from the bottom of the replacement grounding tape. Align the grounding tape over the camera as shown.
Inspect the replacement TrueDepth camera. If the protective covers or the camera assembly is damaged, replace the TrueDepth camera.
Position the TrueDepth camera in the camera opening of the enclosure.
Press the three ends of the TrueDepth camera flex cables to the connectors.
Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 11.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 3IP bit to install two new 3IP screws into the TrueDepth camera.

Position the TrueDepth camera connector cowling over the TrueDepth camera. Then use the black torque driver and crosshead bit to install four new crosshead screws into the cowling.

Reinstall the covers on the TrueDepth camera connector cowling.
Peel the bottom liner from the replacement foam. Press the foam onto the TrueDepth camera as shown. Then remove the top liner from the foam.
Peel the bottom liner from the replacement tape. Press the tape onto the TrueDepth camera as shown. Then remove the top liner from the tape.
Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove the protective covers from the TrueDepth camera.
Caution: Don't touch the camera lenses after you remove the protective cover.
Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
Important
After you’ve completed all reassembly steps, Repair Assistant will be available on the device and is required to enable security features. Learn how to initiate Repair Assistant.
Note: If you have not run Repair Assistant, the device’s parts and service history may show a part status of “finish repair,” and Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair may show a part status of “unknown.”
