How to collaborate on a playlist in Apple Music on your iPhone, iPad, or Android

With Apple Music, you can start a collaborative playlist. Invite friends to join your playlist. Add your favorite songs. And react to songs that others add with emojis.

Here's what you need

  • An iPhone or iPad with the latest version of iOS or iPadOS

  • A subscription to Apple Music

Children under the age of 13 can’t collaborate on playlists. Collaborative playlists aren’t available in Cameroon, China mainland, Malawi, Mali, Russia, Türkiye, United Arab Emirates, and Uruguay.

How to collaborate on a playlist in Apple Music

  1. Open the Apple Music app.

  2. Create a new playlist or open an existing playlist.

  3. At the top of the playlist, tap the Collaborate buttonCollaborate button. From here, you can:

    • Turn on Approve Collaborators to approve those you invite to join your playlist.

    • Turn off Approve Collaborators to allow anyone with the link to your playlist to join.

  4. Tap Start Collaboration.

  5. Invite others to join your playlist in a message, email, or other option listed.

To invite additional people to join your playlist, tap the Collaborate buttonCollaborate button. Then tap Share Invite Link or generate a QR Code that others can scan.

How to approve or remove collaborators

  1. In the Apple Music app, open the playlist that you invited others to join.

  2. At the top of the playlist, tap the Collaborate buttonCollaborate button.

  3. To approve someone, tap the Approve buttonApprove button. To remove someone, tap the Remove buttonRemove button.

How to accept an invite to collaborate on a playlist

  1. Open the invitation.

  2. Tap Join Playlist.

If you see Approval Needed to Join, tap Request to Join, then wait for the person who invited you to approve.

How to add or edit songs in a collaborative playlist

  1. In the Apple Music app, open the collaborative playlist.

  2. At the top of the playlist, tap the More buttonMore button, then tap Edit. From here, you can:

    • Add songs: Tap Add Music, search for music to add, then tap the Add buttonAdd button.

    • Remove songs: Tap the Remove buttonRemove button, then tap Delete.

    • Reorder songs: Drag the three lines iconThree lines icon next to a song up or down.

How to add reactions to songs in a collaborative playlist

  1. In the Apple Music app, go to a collaborative playlist.

  2. Play a song.

  3. Tap the song that's playing at the bottom of the screen.

  4. In Now Playing, tap the Reaction buttonReaction button.

  5. Tap an emoji.

How to stop or leave a collaborative playlist

  1. In the Apple Music app, open the collaborative playlist.

  2. Tap the Collaborate buttoncollaborate button.

  3. Tap Stop or Leave.
