If these messages appear, you have an unpaid balance. Change your payment method or redeem a gift card and use the balance to pay for any unpaid orders.
If you see a message that says 'billing problem with a previous purchase or 'verification required,' you have an unpaid balance because Apple was unable to charge your payment method for a previous purchase. Until your balance has been paid, you might be unable to:
Make new purchases
Download free apps
Use subscriptions
When the outstanding balance has been paid, you can make new purchases or use subscriptions again.
You can pay an unpaid balance using a new, valid payment method or by purchasing and redeeming an Apple Gift Card or App Store & iTunes gift card.
Remove the old payment method.
The new payment method is charged automatically.
Purchase an Apple Gift Card or App Store & iTunes gift card.*
Redeem the gift card to add funds to your Apple Account.
On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app and tap your name.
Tap Media & Purchases, then tap View Account.
Tap Purchase History.
Tap the order with red text that says Amount You Owe.
Tap Pay with Apple Account Credit.
After you pay for the unpaid order, you can make purchases with your remaining Apple Account balance.
* Gift cards aren't available in all countries or regions.
If you use Family Sharing and purchase sharing is turned on, the family organizer's payment method is charged for all family members' purchases.
If you or a family member can't make purchases, change your payment method.
If you can't make purchases:
Ask the family organizer to change their payment method.
If you are still unable to resolve your unpaid balance, contact Apple Support.
