Reassembly

 Caution

To avoid contamination of the lenses, don’t remove the camera cap or the protective lens covers until you are ready to position the camera in the enclosure.

  1. Put on the gloves to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.

  2. Use ESD-safe tweezers to grasp the camera’s upper left screw hole.

    • Important

      • To install a replacement camera, remove the protective lens covers and continue to step 3.

      • To reinstall the existing camera, remove the camera cap and inspect the lenses for contamination such as dust, scratches, or smudges. If there is no contamination, continue to step 3. If the camera is contaminated, repeat steps 1 and 2 with a replacement camera, remove the protective lens covers, and continue to step 3.

  3. Still grasping the camera’s upper left screw hole with the ESD-safe tweezers, turn the camera lens-side down. Then lower the camera into enclosure.

  4. Use the flat end of the black stick to lift the top two camera flex cables out of the way. Then press the end of the bottom camera flex cable to the connector.

  5. Press the ends of the top two camera flexes to the connectors.

  6. Lightly press the camera to ensure that it’s positioned correctly.

  7. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 16 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and the adjustable torque driver JCIS bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-09956) (1) (923-09957) (3) into the camera.

  8. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 17.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and the adjustable torque driver JCIS bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-09958) (2) into the camera.

  9. Inspect the camera grounding spring above the camera. If the grounding spring isn’t bent or damaged, complete the reassembly. If the grounding spring is bent or damaged, continue to step 10.

  10. Note the orientation of the camera grounding spring. Then use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove the crosshead screw from the camera grounding spring. Discard the grounding spring and set aside the screw.

  11. Position the replacement camera grounding spring above the camera. Then use the gray torque driver and JCIS bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-09909) into the grounding spring.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:

 Caution

  • Remove the iPhone from the repair tray and inspect the camera lenses for contamination such as dust, scratches, or smudges. If there is contamination, repeat all removal steps and install a replacement camera.

  • After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, learn how to initiate the System Configuration process at support.apple.com/self-service-repair.

  • During System Configuration, you will perform LiDAR Scanner calibration. Prepare for calibration by reviewing the following steps:

  1. Use a well-lit area containing objects of different shapes and sizes.

  2. Sit or stand 4 feet from the objects.

  3. Hold the device vertically and rest your elbow on your body to help stabilize your arm.

  4. Start scanning by slowly panning back and forth to the left and right of the starting point. Follow the directions that appear on the device screen.

Note: The calibration process takes approximately 5 minutes.
