MacBook Air (15-inch, M2, 2023) Lid Angle Sensor

Before Your Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)

  • Torx Plus 1IP 44 mm half-moon bit

 Caution

This procedure requires System Configuration. After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, learn how to initiate the System Configuration process.

Removal

  1. Use the flat end of the black stick to lift the end of the lid angle sensor flex cable off the connector.

  2. Use the flat end of the black stick to move the lid angle sensor flex cable aside to access the 1IP screw (1).

  3. Use the blue torque driver and 1IP bit to remove the 1IP screw from the lid angle sensor (2).

    • Important: Discard the 1IP screw. The 1IP screw cannot be reinstalled.

  4. Remove the lid angle sensor from the enclosure.

Reassembly

  1. Align the slot and screw hole on the lid angle sensor flex cable with the pin and screw hole in the top case.

  2. Hold the lid angle sensor in position (1). Use ESD-safe tweezers to position one new 1IP (923-08984) screw into the lid angle sensor (2). Then use the blue torque driver and 1IP bit to install the screw.

    • Important: Ensure that you use install a new 1IP screw.

  3. Press the end of the lid angle sensor flex cable to the connector (1). Then lay the flex cable flat (2) as shown.

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:

   Caution

  • After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, learn how to initiate the System Configuration process.

  • If you replaced the lid angle sensor, close the display for 20 seconds when prompted during the System Configuration process. If the display isn’t fully closed during the process, you'll need to install another new lid angle sensor. The computer will play a startup sound (chime) when the process is complete.
