MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2023) Fans

Before You Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)

  • Torx Plus 3IP 44 mm half-moon bit

  • Torx T5 bit

Removal

  1. Use the flat end of the black stick to gently peel the fan flex cables off the top case.

  2. Use ESD-safe tweezers to peel the screw covers off the four 3IP screws. Save the screw covers for reassembly.

  3. Use the blue torque driver and Torx Plus 3IP bit to remove the four 3IP screws (923-06960) from the fans.

  4. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and T5 bit to remove the four T5 screws (923-06929) from the fans.

  5. Remove the fans from the top case.

Reassembly

  1. Position the fans in the top case.

  2. Set the torque value of the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 25 Ncm.

  3. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and T5 bit to reinstall the four T5 screws (923-06929) into the fans.

  4. Use the blue torque driver and Torx Plus 3IP bit to reinstall the four 3IP screws (923-06960) into the fans.

  5. Press the screw covers onto the four 3IP screws.

    • Important: A replacement part may include replacement screw covers. If so, install the replacement screw covers.

  6. Press the fan flex cables to adhere them to the top case.
