Trade in your iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android device

When you trade in a device with your purchase of a new iPhone or Apple Watch, you'll receive a kit that has everything that you need to send your trade-in device to Apple.

Before you send in your device

Prepare your device for trade in and protect your personal information.

Back up and erase your device

Suspend cellular service

  • If your iPhone or Android device uses a physical SIM card, remove it.

  • If your iPhone or Android device uses eSIM, contact your wireless provider to suspend service.

  • If you’re trading in a cellular Apple Watch, remove the active cellular plan.

Pack your device for trade in

  • The kit you received from Apple has everything that you need to pack up your trade-in device — including a shipping box or cardboard mailer to pack your device and the return shipping label or commercial invoice.

  • Don’t include anything else in the box — like a case, power adapter, cables, watch bands, or other accessories. If you do, they won’t be returned to you.

  • If you’re trading in multiple devices, include only one device per trade-in kit. Make sure that you’re using the right kit by checking that the Quote ID Number on your return shipping label matches the Quote ID Number in your confirmation email for that device.

Pack your device in a shipping box

  1. Lift the cardboard insert from the shipping box, place your device into the insert with the screen facing up, then lightly press down on the insert to secure your device.

  2. Place your device between the padded flaps, then fold the flaps securely over your device.

  3. Fold the cardboard mailer until the last panel, then remove the tape cover strip and fold the last panel, pressing firmly to secure.
