If you can’t find the Duplicates album for duplicate photos and videos on iPhone

Wait for your iPhone to finish searching for duplicate photos and videos. If you still can't see the Duplicates album, learn what to do.

Starting with iOS 16, the Photos app detects duplicate photos and videos in your photo library and places them in the Duplicates album under the Utilities section. For the Duplicates album to appear, iPhone has to index your photo library and find duplicates.

The detection process requires iPhone to be locked and connected to power. Depending on what tasks are running in the background and the size of your photo library, the process could happen quickly or take up to a few days to complete.

Check if iPhone is indexing

  1. Open the Photos app.

  2. Tap Library, then scroll down.

If your iPhone is indexing your library, a status message appears at the bottom of the Photos app.

Find the duplicates album

  1. Open the Photos app.

  2. Tap Collections, scroll down to Utilities, then tap Duplicates.

If you don't see the Duplicates album, your iPhone has not identified any duplicates.
