Before You Begin

Caution
This procedure requires System Configuration. After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, follow the instructions to initiate System Configuration.
Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Important: Follow back glass removal steps 1 through 4. Then continue to step 1.
Use a torque driver and the trilobe bit to remove the three trilobe screws. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Remove the logic board lower cowling and save it for reassembly.
Lift the end of the battery flex cable off the connector (1).
Caution: You must disconnect the battery flex cable first to ensure that the iPhone stays turned off.
Lift the end of the back glass flex cable off the connector (2).
Lift the ends of two SIM assembly flex cables off the connectors (3, 4).
Remove one screw from the SIM assembly spacer.
Hold the back glass by the edges. Pull the tabs on the suction cups to release them from the back glass. Then set the back glass facedown on a clean, flat surface.
Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove the 10 crosshead screws. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Remove the logic board upper cowling and save it for reassembly.
Remove the SIM assembly spacer and save it for reassembly.
Lift the ends of the top speaker flex cable, the back glass 1 antenna (if present), and the two front camera flex cables off the connectors.
Remove the front camera and the top speaker.
Use a torque driver and super screw bit to remove the three super screws. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Lift the ends of six flex cables off the connectors on the logic board.
Place the repair tray with the iPhone onto the logic board dock.
Place the logic board dock insert into the dock. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Caution
Ensure that you use the correct dock insert for the model you’re repairing.
Don't trap or scratch the USB-C flex cables when placing the insert.
Tilt the logic board away from the enclosure. Align the two screw holes in the logic board with the two pins on the dock insert.
Caution: Don’t pinch or stretch the flex cables. Avoid touching components on the logic board.
Use a torque driver and the trilobe bit to remove the two trilobe screws. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Remove the display connector cowling and save it for reassembly.
Remove the ambient light sensor connector cowling and save it for reassembly.
Lift the ends of both flex cables off the connectors.
Remove the logic board.

Note: Some screws may come in a bag labeled with a 452 part number. They will be included with the screw kits, but can be ordered separately using the equivalent 923 part number.

Place the logic board onto the logic board dock insert with Saturn icon. Align the two screw holes in the logic board with the two pins on the dock insert.
Caution: Don't trap the flex cables under the logic board.
Press the ends of the ambient light sensor flex cable and the display flex cable to the connectors.
Position the ambient light sensor connector cowling and the display connector cowling over the connectors.
Use the green torque driver and trilobe bit to install two new trilobe screws (923-13862) (1) and (923-13856) (2).
Tilt the logic board away from the logic board dock insert and place it into the enclosure.
Caution: Don’t pinch or stretch the flex cables. Avoid touching components on the logic board.
Remove the repair tray from the logic board dock.
Reinstall the SIM assembly spacer.
Use the blue torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-13990) into the SIM assembly spacer.
Use the green torque driver and trilobe bit to install one new trilobe screw (923-13861) into the SIM assembly spacer.
Press the ends of the six flex cables to the connectors on the logic board.
Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 19 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and super screw bit to install one new super screw into the logic board (923-13874).
Use the teal torque driver and super screw bit to install two new super screws into the logic board (923-13863).
Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
Caution
System Configuration is required if you’ve installed a replacement logic board. Disregard notifications about iPhone features on the Lock Screen until you complete configuration.
After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, initiate System Configuration by putting the device into diagnostics mode. Tap Start Session and follow the onscreen prompts.
You’ll have one attempt to complete System Configuration. If the attempt is interrupted, canceled, or encounters an error, the device will display a message instructing you to contact the Self Service Repair Store team for assistance.
