Update your software to pair AirPods

To update your device, do one of the following:

  • iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings  > General, then tap Software Update.

  • Mac: Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click General in the sidebar, then click Software Update.

  • Apple TV: Go to Settings  > Software Updates, then select Update Software.

  • Apple Watch: Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Tap My Watch, then go to General > Software Update.

  • Apple Vision Pro: Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.

Your device needs the following software to be able to pair with your AirPods:

  • AirPods 1: iOS 10, macOS 10.12, tvOS 11, watchOS 3, or later.

  • AirPods 2: iOS 12.2, macOS 10.14.4, tvOS 12.2, watchOS 5.2, or later.

  • AirPods 3: iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, macOS 12, tvOS 15.1, watchOS 8.1, or later.

  • AirPods 4 or AirPods 4 (ANC): iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, tvOS 18, watchOS 11, or later.

  • AirPods Pro 1: iOS 13.2, iPadOS 13.2, macOS 10.15.1, tvOS 13.2, watchOS 6.1, or later.

  • AirPods Pro 2: iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, tvOS 16, watchOS 9, or later.

  • AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C): iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, tvOS 17, watchOS 10, or later.

  • AirPods Max (Lightning): iOS 14.3, iPadOS 14.3, macOS 11.1, tvOS 14.3, watchOS 7.2, or later.

  • AirPods Max (USB-C): iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, tvOS 18, watchOS 11, or later.
