Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
Remove the following parts before you begin:
Tools
Adjustable torque driver (0.3–1.2 Nm)
Nylon probe (black stick)
Torx Plus 8IP 25 mm bit
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.
Caution
If you replace this part, it’s recommended to run Repair Assistant in order to finish the repair. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.
Important
Discard screws according to your local recycling guidelines.
Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Flip up the locking bar on the end of the display flex cable. Then slide the end of the flex cable out of the connector.

Flip up the locking bar on the end of the camera/ambient light sensor (ALS)/display flex cable. Then slide the end of the flex cable out of the connector.

Lift the camera/ALS/display flex cable from the foam channel.

Fully open the display and place the computer facedown on a clean surface with the display hanging down over the edge of the table.

Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to remove the four 8IP screws (923-14184) from the display hinges. Hold the display in place as you remove the screws.
Caution: Don't reinstall the screws in reassembly. A replacement display will include new screws.

Lift the display until the hinges clear the edge of the top case. Then remove the display.

Reassembly
Align the display hinges with the screw holes in the top case as you lower the display into position.

Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to partially install the four new 8IP screws (923-14184) into the display hinges.
Caution: Use new display screws for reassembly. The new screws are included with a replacement display, keyboard, or top case.


Close the display and stand the computer on its edge. Adjust the display until its flush with the top case.

Set the torque value on the adjustable torque driver to 1.1 Nm. Then use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to fully install the four new 8IP screws into the display hinges in the order shown.

Slide the end of the display flex cable into the connector. Then flip down the locking bar.

Slide the end of the camera/ALS/display flex cable into the connector. Then flip down the locking bar.

Press the camera/ALS/display flex cable into the foam channel.

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
