Add a hotel room key to Apple Wallet on your iPhone
You can add a hotel room key to the Apple Wallet app. Then, use your iPhone or Apple Watch to view reservation details, check in, and unlock your room.
To add a hotel room key on your iPhone, you need:
The latest version of iOS or watchOS.
An Apple ID signed in to iCloud with two-factor authentication enabled.
A reservation at a hotel or resort that supports this feature.
The hotel or resort app and a valid account.
How to add a hotel room key on your iPhone
Open the hotel or resort app and sign in to your account.
Open your reservation.
Tap Add to Apple Wallet.
Follow the instructions on the screen to add your hotel room key.
When you add your hotel room key on your iPhone, it will be automatically added to your eligible paired Apple Watch. If your hotel room key wasn't added to your eligible Apple Watch, you can add it to your watch by adding it again from the hotel or resort app.
Express Mode is turned on automatically, which allows you to use your hotel room key by simply holding your device against the lock.
When your stay is over, your hotel room key is deactivated remotely and may be archived for more efficient management of passes in Apple Wallet. You can also manually remove hotel passes from Apple Wallet.
Some hotel room keys previously added can be added again directly in the Wallet app:
On your iPhone, open the Wallet app.
Tap the
.Tap Previous Cards.
Tap your hotel key and follow the onscreen instructions.
Use your hotel room key
After you add a hotel room key to the Apple Wallet app, you can use your iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock your room by simply holding your iPhone or Apple Watch against the lock. Depending on your iPhone model, you might be able to open your room after your iPhone battery runs out. You can also view your reservation details and check in.
How to view your reservation details on your iPhone or Apple Watch
On your device, open the Apple Wallet app.
Tap your hotel room key to see reservation details.
Depending on the hotel, you can view reservation details in the Reservation section below your key, or by tapping the
.
If your reservation details change, the information displayed on your hotel room key automatically updates.
How to check in to your hotel room on your iPhone
On the day of your reservation, you can check in on your iPhone.
Open the Apple Wallet app.
Tap your hotel room key.
When check-in is available on the day of your reservation, the hotel room key displays your Check In status as Available Now.
Tap the Check In button.
Follow the instructions on the screen to check in to your room.
If you can't check in on your iPhone, or if you're using your hotel room key on your Apple Watch, check in with the hotel or resort app or website, or at the front desk.
How to open your hotel room with your iPhone or Apple Watch
Make sure that your device is turned on. It doesn't need to be connected to a cellular or Wi-Fi network.
Hold the top of your iPhone or the display of your Apple Watch near the lock.
When the door unlocks, a checkmark and Done show on your device.
If you turned Express Mode off, you can use your hotel room key in Apple Wallet:
Open your Apple Wallet:
iPhone with Face ID: Double-click the side button.
iPhone with Touch ID: Rest your finger on the Touch ID sensor.
Apple Watch: Double-click the side button.
Choose your key:
iPhone: Tap your default card to see your other cards and passes. Tap your hotel room key and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
Apple Watch: Scroll down to find your hotel room key.
Hold the top of your iPhone or the display of your Apple Watch near the lock.
When the door unlocks, a checkmark and Done show on your device.
If you have issues with your hotel room key
If your device is lost or stolen, you can mark it as lost. This action automatically turns off all cards and passes in the Apple Wallet app, including your hotel room key.
The number of devices you can add your hotel room key to depends on the hotel or resort.
Some hotels and resorts might allow you to add only one hotel room key for their hotel or resort at one time.
