Change General preferences in Terminal on Mac

On startup, open

Choose the initial window configuration.

• New window with profile: Select “New window with profile”, click the pop-up menu, then choose a profile.

• Window group: Select “Window group”, click the pop-up menu, then choose a group.

Shells open with

Choose the shell that’s used when a new window opens.

• Default login shell: The login shell set up for your user account. The default login shell is zsh.

• Command (complete path): To use a different shell, enter the path to the shell.

New windows open with

Choose the profile and working directory for new windows.

• Default Profile: Opens a window with the default profile.

• Same Profile: Opens a window with the profile used by the active window.

• Default Working Directory: Opens a window with the home directory set up for your user account.

• Same Working Directory: Opens a window with the working directory used by the active window.

New tabs open with

Choose the profile and working directory for new tabs.

• Default Profile: Opens a tab with the default profile.

• Same Profile: Opens a tab with the profile used by the active tab.

• Default Working Directory: Opens a tab with the home directory set up for your user account.

• Same Working Directory: Opens a tab with the working directory used by the active tab.

Use ⌘-1 to ⌘-9 to switch tabs

Use keyboard shortcuts to select one of the first nine tabs in the tab bar.
