
Change Focus preferences on Mac
On your Mac, use Focus System Preferences to set up a Focus that can minimise distractions by pausing and silencing all notifications or allowing notifications only from certain people or apps. Learn how to set up a Focus.
To change these preferences, choose Apple menu , then click Focus.

Option | Description |
---|---|
Focus list | The list shows each Focus you add or create on your Mac and on your other Apple devices (if you select the “Share across devices” tickbox). The Do Not Disturb Focus is always available. |
Add | Add a provided Focus, such as Gaming or Work, or create a custom Focus. |
Remove | Remove a Focus. A custom Focus is deleted. A provided Focus, such as Reading or Mindfulness, is removed from the list but is still available to add again later. |
Edit | Change the name, colour or icon of a custom Focus. |
Share across devices | Keep your Focus up to date across your Apple devices when you’re signed in with the same Apple ID. |
Focus button | Turn the selected Focus on or off. When you click the button to turn on the Focus — for example, Do Not Disturb or Personal — the button changes colour to indicate that the Focus is active. |
Allowed Notifications From | Lists the people and apps whose notifications are allowed when the selected Focus is active. Do any of the following:

Options | Allow time-sensitive notifications or notifications for phone calls when the selected Focus is active.

Turn On Automatically | Lists the times, locations or apps used to automatically turn the selected Focus on or off. Do any of the following:

Share Focus Status | Let contacts who send you a message know that you have silenced notifications. If something’s important, they can choose to notify you anyway. If you don’t want to share your status, deselect the tickbox. |
