If an installer says it can't be verified or was signed with a certificate that has expired

Please download a new copy of the installer.

In certain circumstances, such as when an installer is damaged, you'll see an alert that says the application can't be verified and may have been corrupted or tampered with during download. Or it says that the package was signed with a certificate that has expired and may not be authentic.

  1. Delete the installer. If it's a macOS installer, it may be in your Applications folder.

  2. Check the date and time on your Mac to make sure they're set correctly.

  3. Download a new copy of the installer. If the new installer is also affected, please contact the maker of the software for help.

If you need a new macOS installer, find the latest download links in the installation guidelines below. Earlier versions aren't available for download. If you used the old installer to create a bootable installer, use the new one to create a new bootable installer.
