Data recovery and warranty implications

Find out about the warranty implications of having your Apple storage device serviced by a data recovery company.

Products that have had data recovery performed on them by third-party companies that are recommended by Apple to provide data recovery services can be returned to Apple for a service. The cost of any data recovery attempt is not covered by the Apple limited warranty or an AppleCare plan.

Typically, if a product is modified, it is not eligible for a service. However, if a third-party company recommended by Apple modifies a product while performing data recovery, Apple will not exclude coverage on that basis.

Storage devices that are no longer functional due to an issue beyond normal usage – such as damage from an impact, being dropped, exposure to moisture or other circumstances outside normal usage – are not eligible for warranty exchange regardless of whether data recovery is performed.
