Turn on Live Captions in FaceTime on Mac
While you’re on a video call, you can turn on Live Captions to have conversations transcribed on the screen. All audio is processed on your Mac.
Note: Live Captions is only available on Mac computers with Apple silicon, and is not available in all languages, countries, or regions. The accuracy of Live Captions may vary and should not be relied upon in high-risk or emergency situations. Live Captions uses additional power.
With Apple Intelligence*, you can also use Live Translation to see the other participant’s words translated into your language.
Turn on Live Captions
During a FaceTime video call, click

If you don’t see
, move the pointer over the FaceTime window.
Click Live Captions.

See translated captions in FaceTime
During a FaceTime call with someone who speaks a different language, you can use Live Translation—enabled by Apple Intelligence—to see translated captions in your preferred language.
Note: Live Translation in FaceTime is available for one-on-one calls in English (UK, U.S.), French (France), German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Spain), Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Japanese, and Korean. Click Live Translation.
When the caller speaks a different language, captions are automatically translated into your preferred language.
