iMovie HD doesn’t open in OS X Yosemite

iMovie HD is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. To use iMovie, upgrade to the latest version from the Mac App Store.

Upgrade to the latest version of iMovie

The latest version of iMovie is available from the Mac App Store and is a free update if you already have iMovie 9.0 or later. It is optimized for OS X Yosemite, the latest Intel processors, and the Retina display. The latest version also includes many new features and allows you to:

  • See all of your video organized in one place.
  • Quickly share clips and projects to YouTube, Facebook, and Vimeo.
  • Create Hollywood-style trailers with beautiful graphics and original scores by some of the world’s top film composers.
  • Use adjustment tools to boost color, stabilize shaky video, add video and audio filters, and create realistic green-screen effects.
  • Share finished projects to iMovie Theater. Projects shared to iMovie Theater are automatically uploaded to iCloud and can be viewed on all of your devices, including Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.
