Transition songs in Music on Mac
Use AutoMix (on a Mac with Apple silicon) or Crossfade to transition songs seamlessly.
Note: When Prefer HDMI Passthrough is selected in Playback settings, songs no longer transition. Turn HDMI Passthrough off to resume crossfading. See Change Playback settings.
Change how music transitions
Go to the Music app
on your Mac.
Choose Music > Settings, then click Playback.
Click the Song Transitions pop-up menu and choose an option.
About AutoMix
AutoMix seamlessly transitions between songs, like a DJ. AutoMix works with music from the Apple Music catalog on an iPhone, iPad, Mac with Apple silicon, and Apple Vision Pro, with iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe, visionOS 26, or later.
AutoMix automatically selects the best transition type, depending on the music. For example, AutoMix might remove silence at the beginning and end of a track, or perform a simple crossfade, rather than a more complex transition, when appropriate.
Note: Albums and some genres play without transitions.
AutoMix is on by default. You can turn it off in the queue or in Playback Settings.
Turn on Crossfade
You can set Music to fade in each song (gradually increase its volume) while the previous song is fading out—this is called crossfading.
Go to the Music app
on your Mac.
Choose Music > Settings, click Playback, then turn on Song Transitions.
Select Crossfade, then drag the Seconds slider to change the amount of time it takes for the current song to fade out at the end and the new song to fade in.
