iPhone 17 Pro Max USB-C Connector
Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
Remove the following parts before you begin:
Tools
Crosshead 44 mm half-moon bit
Crosshead 100 mm half-moon bit
ESD-safe tweezers
Ethanol wipes or isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes
Nitrile or lint-free gloves
Nylon probe (black stick)
Torque driver (black, 0.35 kgf cm)
Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)
Torque driver (gray, 0.55 kgf cm)
Torque driver (orange, 0.85 kgf cm)
Note: Only needed for eSIM models
Torque driver (teal, 0.75 kgf cm)
Trilobe 44 mm half-moon bit
USB-C charge cable
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Peel the battery spacer from the enclosure and set it aside for reassembly.
Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove 13 crosshead screws from the USB-C connector. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Caution: Four of the screws are on the vertical edges of the enclosure. Ensure that the torque driver and bit are as parallel to the enclosure as possible to avoid stripping the screws.
Remove the logic board spacer from the enclosure.
Use a torque driver and the trilobe bit to remove the two trilobe screws from the USB-C connector. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Lift the ends of the two stacked USB-C connector flex cables from the connectors.
Gently separate the USB-C connector from the enclosure.
Gently separate the microphone (attached to the USB-C connector) from the sidewall of the enclosure.
Break the adhesive bond between the USB-C connector and enclosure. Then remove the USB-C connector from the enclosure.

Models with eSIM

Models with a physical SIM

Use the ESD-safe tweezers to remove all residual adhesive from the enclosure.
Use an ethanol wipe or IPA wipe to clean the opening and remove any remaining adhesive from the enclosure.
Important: Visually inspect that the USB-C connector opening in the enclosure (1) and the microphone port (2) are free of debris.
If you’re installing a replacement USB-C connector, use the ESD-safe tweezers to peel three of the four adhesive liners (1, 3, and 4) from the replacement part.
Important: Don’t peel the adhesive liner (2) yet.
Position the USB-C connector in the enclosure without pressing it into place.
Insert a USB-C charge cable into the port to ensure proper alignment of the USB-C connector.
Ensure that all the screw holes are aligned. Then firmly press the USB-C connector for 20 seconds to adhere it to the enclosure.
Use the teal torque driver and long crosshead bit to install two new crosshead screws into the USB-C connector.
Note: These screws install into the sidewall of the enclosure.

Peel the adhesive liner from the microphone. Then firmly press the microphone to adhere it to the sidewall of the enclosure.
Route the USB-C connector flex cables along the sidewall of the enclosure.
Press the ends of the two stacked flex cables to their connectors.
Position the logic board spacer in the enclosure.
Use the gray torque driver and crosshead bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-13710) into the logic board spacer.
Press along the length of the USB-C connector to fully adhere it to the enclosure.
For models with eSIM only: Use the orange torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-13939).
Use the blue torque driver and crosshead bit to install eight new crosshead screws.

Use the black torque driver and trilobe bit to install two new trilobe screws (923-13730) into the USB-C connector.
Reinstall the battery spacer in the enclosure as shown.
