iPad mini (A17 Pro) Front Camera

Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following part before you begin:

iPad mini (A17 Pro) Front Camera

Tools

  • 8.3-inch repair tray

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Ethanol wipes or isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes

  • JCIS bit for crosshead screws

  • Nitrile or lint-free gloves

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (black, 0.35 kgf cm)

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

  1. If you're removing the front camera from a Wi-Fi model, continue to step 2. If you're removing the front camera from a Wi-Fi + Cellular model, skip to step 3.

  2. Wi-Fi models only: Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove the two crosshead screws from the front camera connector cowling. Set aside the screws. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

    • Lift the end of the front camera flex cable off the connector.

    • Remove the front camera from the enclosure.

  3. Wi-Fi + Cellular models only: Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove two crosshead screws from the front camera connector cowling and one crosshead screw from the antenna coaxial cable grounding clip.

    • Lift the end of the antenna flex cable off the connector. Then lift the end of the front camera flex cable off the connector.

    • Remove the front camera from the enclosure.

Reassembly

Caution

Put on the gloves to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.

  1. Use an ethanol wipe or IPA wipe to clean and remove any remaining adhesive residue in the front camera area of the enclosure.

  2. Inspect the replacement front camera. If the protective cover on the camera lens or camera assembly is damaged, replace the front camera.

  3. Position the replacement foam in the camera opening of the enclosure.

    • Wi-Fi

    • Wi-Fi + Cellular

  4. Position the front camera in the enclosure. Then gently press the front camera for 10 seconds to adhere it to the enclosure.

  5. Press the end of the front camera flex cable to the connector.

    • Wi-Fi + Cellular models only: Press the end of the antenna flex cable to the connector.

  6. Wi-Fi models only: Position the front camera connector cowling over the end of the front camera flex cable. Then use the black torque driver and JCIS bit to install two new crosshead screws (1, 2) into the cowling.

    • One screw (452-11675) (1)

    • One screw (452-07207) (2)

  7. Wi-Fi + Cellular models only: Position the front camera connector cowling over the ends of the flex cables. Then use the black torque driver and JCIS bit to install two new crosshead screws (1) into the front camera connector cowling and one new crosshead screw (2) into the antenna coaxial cable grounding clip.

    • Two screws (452-11675) (1)

    • One screw (452-06443) (2)

  8. Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove the protective cover from the front camera.

    • Caution: Don't touch the camera lens after you remove the protective cover.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
