iPad mini (A17 Pro) Camera

Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following part before you begin:

iPad mini (A17 Pro) Camera

Tools

  • 1.5 mm slotted screwdriver

  • 8.3-inch repair tray

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Ethanol wipes or isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes

  • JCIS bit for crosshead screws

  • Nitrile or lint-free gloves

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (black, 0.35 kgf cm)

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

  1. If you're removing the camera from a Wi-Fi model, continue to step 2. If you're removing the camera from a Wi-Fi + Cellular model, skip to step 3.

  2. Wi-Fi models only:

    • Peel the grounding tape off the camera connector cowling.

    • Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove the three crosshead screws from the camera connector cowling. Set aside the screws. Then remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

    • Peel two additional pieces of grounding tape off the back of the camera.

    • Lift the end of the ambient light sensor flex cable off the connector. Then gently move the flex cable aside.

    • Lift the end of the top button flex cable off the connector. Then gently peel it off the camera flex cable.

    • Peel the last piece of grounding tape off the end of the camera flex cable. Then lift the end of the camera flex cable off the connector.

    • Use the 1.5 mm slotted screwdriver to pry the camera from the enclosure.

  3. Wi-Fi + Cellular models only:

    • Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove the two crosshead screws from the camera connector cowling. Set aside the screws. Then remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

    • Lift the end of the antenna coaxial cable off the connector. Gently move it aside.

    • Lift the end of the top button flex cable off the connector. Then gently peel it off the camera flex cable.

    • Lift the end of the camera flex cable off the connector.

    • Use the 1.5 mm slotted screwdriver to pry the camera in the area shown and remove it from the enclosure.

Reassembly

Caution

Put on the gloves to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.

  1. Remove adhesives from the camera opening of the enclosure. Then use an ethanol wipe or IPA wipe to clean any remaining residue.

    • Important: Don't touch the lens while cleaning the residue.

  2. Apply new camera adhesive in the camera opening of the enclosure.

  3. Inspect the replacement camera. If the protective cover on the lens or the camera assembly is damaged, replace the camera. Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove the protective cover from the camera.

    • Caution: Don’t touch the camera lens after you remove the protective cover.

  4. Position the camera in the enclosure. Then gently press the camera for 10 seconds to adhere it to the enclosure.

  5. If you're replacing the camera in a Wi-Fi model, continue to step 6. If you're replacing the camera in a Wi-Fi + Cellular model, skip to step 7.

  6. Wi-Fi models only:

    • Press the end of the camera flex cable to the connector. Then apply new grounding tape over the end of the flex cable as shown.

    • Press the end of the top button flex cable to the connector.

    • Press the end of the ambient light sensor flex cable to the connector.

    • Apply new grounding tape on the back of the camera in the two areas shown.

    • Position the camera connector cowling over the ends of the flex cables. Then use the black torque driver and JCIS bit to install three new crosshead screws (452-11675) into the cowling.

    • Apply new grounding tape on the camera connector cowling in the area shown.

  7. Wi-Fi + Cellular models only:

    • Press the end of the camera flex cable to the connector.

    • Press the end of the top button flex cable to the connector.

    • Use the black stick to carefully remove any glue around the antenna coaxial cable connector. Then press the end of the antenna coaxial cable to the connector.

    • Position the camera connector cowling over the ends of the flex cables. Then use the black torque driver and JCIS bit to install two new crosshead screws (452-11675) into the cowling. Peel the grounding tape liner and press the grounding tape to adhere.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
