MacBook Air (15-inch, M4, 2025) Top Case with Keyboard

Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Tools

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)

  • Torx Plus 2IP 44 mm half-moon bit

  • Torx Plus 3IP 44 mm half-moon bit

Note: A replacement top case with keyboard includes the following additional parts and tools:

  • 2IP set screw

  • Battery adhesive

  • Gap offset kit

  • I/O connector cowling tape

  • Touch ID alignment kit

  • Touch ID board flexible cowling

  • Trackpad shims (oval)

  • Trackpad shims (round)

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Note: This procedure may show images of different models, but the steps are the same. Ensure that you use the correct tools for the model you’re repairing.

Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

There are no additional removal steps.

Reassembly

A replacement top case with keyboard includes the following preinstalled parts:

  • Audio board (1)

  • Audio board cowling (2)

  • Interposer board (3)

  • Keyboard cable (4)

  • Microphone and microphone flex cable (5)

  • Keyboard backlight flex cable (6)

  1. Use the blue torque driver and 2IP bit to partially install the new 2IP set screw (923-12569) with one-half clockwise rotation into the replacement top case with keyboard. You’ll adjust the set screw during Touch ID board reassembly.

  2. Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the 3IP screw (923-12556) from the audio board connector cowling (2) in the replacement top case with keyboard. Remove the cowling and save it for Touch ID board reassembly.

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
