Before You Begin

 Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • Camera cap

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • JCIS bit for adjustable torque driver

  • JCIS for fixed driver

  • Nitrile or lint-free gloves

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Super screw bit for fixed driver

  • Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

 Caution

Avoid touching the camera lenses, grounding springs, or nearby parts.

Important

If you replace this part, it’s recommended to run Repair Assistant in order to finish the repair. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.

Removal

Important

Putting on the gloves and covering the camera lenses to prevent contamination of the camera lenses is recommended.

  1. Use a torque driver and the super screw bit to remove the super screw from the camera spacer. Set aside the screw.

  2. Use a torque driver and the fixed driver JCIS bit to remove the three crosshead screws from the camera. Set aside the screws.

    • Remove the camera spacer and save it for reassembly.

  3. Lift the end of the camera flex cable from the connector. Then lift up the camera to remove it from the enclosure.

    • Caution: Don't lift the camera by the flex cable.

Reassembly

Caution

A protective cover is included with a replacement camera. Leave the cover on while installing the new camera.

  1. Put on the gloves to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.

  2. Inspect the grounding springs on the camera for damage.

    • Important: If the grounding springs are bent or broken, you may need to replace the camera.

  3. Position the camera in the enclosure as shown.

  4. Press the end of the camera flex cable to the connector.

  5. Position the camera spacer in the enclosure as shown.

  6. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 19 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and adjustable torque driver JCIS bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-12362) (1) into the camera.

  7. Set the torque value on the adjustable torque driver to 14.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and adjustable torque driver JCIS bit to install a new crosshead screw (923-12363) (2) into the camera.

  8. Use the blue torque driver and super screw bit to install one new super screw into the camera spacer (923-12364).

Important

  • Remove the protective cover from the replacement camera before you reinstall the back glass.

  • After you’ve completed all reassembly steps, Repair Assistant will be available on the device and is recommended to finish the repair. Learn how to initiate Repair Assistant.
