iPhone 16 Plus Enclosure

Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following parts in this order before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • JCIS bit

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Super screw bit

  • Torque driver (gray, 0.55 kgf cm)

  • Torque driver (teal, 0.75 kgf cm)

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Important

Order the correct color enclosure for the iPhone.

SIM Assembly

SIM Assembly Removal

  1. Remove the SIM tray (if present) and save it for reassembly.

  2. Lift the ends of the SIM assembly flex cable and the two USB-C connector flex cables off the connectors.

  3. Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove the two crosshead screws from the logic board. Set aside the screws.

    • Caution: Don't bend back the flex cables more than 90 degrees.

  4. Lift the SIM assembly spacer out of the enclosure. Save the spacer for reassembly.

  5. Use a torque driver and the super screw bit to remove the three super screws from the SIM assembly. Set aside the screws.

    • Caution: Don't bend back the flex cables more than 90 degrees.

  6. Remove the SIM assembly from the enclosure.

    • Important: Part of the SIM assembly called the standin is adhered to the enclosure.

    • Caution: Use ESD-safe tweezers or the flat end of the black stick to gently separate the standin from enclosure before you attempt to remove the SIM assembly.

    • Save the SIM assembly for reassembly.

  • Caution: Don't allow the standin to separate from the SIM assembly.

  • Caution: Ensure that the SIM tray ejector is pushed in (if present).

Logic Board

Logic Board Removal

  1. Lift the ends of the upper antenna 2 flex cable and the action/volume flex cable off the connectors.

  2. Use a torque driver and the super screw bit to remove the two super screws from the logic board. Set aside the screws.

    • Important: Note the orientation of the grounding spring under the upper right screw. Save the grounding spring for reassembly.

  3. Remove the logic board from the enclosure. Save the logic board for reassembly.

Reassembly

Warning

It is recommended to only install new batteries. Used battery cells can become damaged during the removal process. Read Battery Safety to learn more.

Install the following parts in this order in the replacement enclosure and follow the reassembly steps for each part:

Logic Board Reassembly

  1. Position the logic board in the replacement enclosure.

    • Caution: Don't trap the flex cables under the logic board.

  2. Reinstall the grounding spring over the upper right screw hole.

    • Caution: Ensure that the grounding spring's orientation matches its orientation in Logic Board removal step 2.

  3. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 14.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and super screw bit to install one new super screw into the logic board (923-11190) (1).

  4. Use the teal torque driver and super screw bit to install one new super screw into the logic board (923-11191) (2).

  5. Press the ends of the upper antenna 2 flex cable and the action/volume flex cable to the connectors on the logic board.

SIM Assembly Reassembly

  1. Verify that the SIM assembly standin is adhered to the SIM assembly.

    • Caution: If the standin is missing from the SIM assembly or remained in the enclosure, stop the repair. You can find a service option at support.apple.com/repair.

  2. Position the SIM assembly in the replacement enclosure.

  3. Reinstall the SIM tray for alignment (if present).

  4. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and super screw bit to install three new super screws into the SIM assembly.

    • Set the adjustable torque driver to 10 Ncm and install two new super screws:

      • One super screw (923-11199) (1)

      • One super screw (923-11179) (3)

    • Set the adjustable torque driver to 11.5 Ncm and install one new super screw (923-11189) (2).

  5. Reinstall the SIM assembly spacer.

  6. Use the gray torque driver and JCIS bit to install two new crosshead screws into the logic board:

    • One crosshead screw (923-11181) (1)

    • One crosshead screw (923-11183) (2)

  7. Press the ends of the SIM assembly flex cable and the two USB-C connector flex cables to the connectors on the logic board.
