iPhone 16 Plus USB-C Connector
Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following parts before you begin:
Tools
Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)
ESD-safe tweezers
Ethanol wipes
Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes
JCIS bit for fixed driver
Long JCIS bit
Nitrile or lint-free gloves
Nylon probe (black stick)
Super screw bit for fixed driver
Torque driver (gray, 0.55 kgf cm)
Torque driver (teal, 0.75 kgf cm)
USB-C charge cable
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.
Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Lift the ends of the three flex cables off the connectors on the logic board and move them aside to access the SIM assembly spacer.
Caution: Don’t bend back the flex cables more than 90 degrees.
Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove two crosshead screws from the SIM assembly spacer. Set aside the screws.
Lift the SIM assembly spacer out of the enclosure. Save the spacer for reassembly.
Use a torque driver and the super screw bit to remove three super screws from the SIM assembly. Set aside the screws.
Remove the SIM tray if present and save it for reassembly. Ensure that the SIM tray ejector is pushed in.
Remove the SIM assembly from the enclosure and save it for reassembly.
Caution
Part of the SIM assembly called the standin is adhered to the enclosure. Use ESD-safe tweezers or the flat end of the black stick to gently separate the standin from the enclosure before you attempt to remove the SIM assembly.
Don’t allow the standin to separate from the SIM assembly.
Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove seven crosshead screws from the USB-C connector. Set aside the screws.
Use a torque driver and the long JCIS bit to remove two crosshead screws from the USB-C connector. Set aside the screws.
Caution: Keep the torque driver at a low angle to avoid stripping the screws.
Lift the end of the USB-C connector flex cable as shown and peel the flex cable from the enclosure. Then remove the USB-C connector from the enclosure.
Reassembly
Warning
Installing only new batteries is recommended. Used battery cells can become damaged during the removal process. Read Battery Safety to learn more.
Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove all residual adhesive from the enclosure, the microphone 4 area, and the USB-C connector port. Use an ethanol wipe or IPA wipe to clean these areas.
Ensure that the two grounding clips are still intact. If they have fallen off or shifted, use ESD-safe tweezers to reposition them.
Note: The grounding springs on the grounding clips face the display side of the iPhone.
Remove all of the adhesive liners from the replacement USB-C connector, making note of the areas where adhesive is present.
Insert a USB-C charge cable into the port on the iPhone. Position the USB-C connector in the enclosure. Then press the USB-C connector into the USB-C charge cable for proper alignment.
Warning: Ensure that the USB-C charge cable isn’t plugged into a power source.
Align the screw holes then press the USB-C connector flex cable to the enclosure, paying close attention to the areas where adhesive is present.
Important
Don’t press the attached microphone 4 into place yet.
To avoid damaging surrounding parts, wearing gloves is recommended.
Use the teal torque driver and long JCIS bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-11947) into the USB-C connector.
Caution: Keep the torque driver at a low angle to avoid stripping the screws.
Remove the USB-C charge cable.
Align the microphone 4 to the left of the speaker seal. Use the black stick to press the microphone 4 into the small indented area in the enclosure.
Use the gray torque driver and JCIS bit to install seven new crosshead screws into the USB-C connector.

Reinstall the SIM assembly.
Verify that the SIM assembly standin is adhered to the SIM assembly.

Position the SIM assembly in the replacement enclosure.
Reinstall the SIM tray for alignment (if present).
Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and super screw bit to install three new super screws into the SIM assembly.
Set the adjustable torque driver to 10 Ncm and install two new super screws:

Set the adjustable torque driver to 11.5 Ncm and install one new super screw (923-11189) (2).
Reinstall the SIM assembly spacer.
Use the gray torque driver and JCIS bit to install two new crosshead screws into the SIM assembly spacer.

Press the ends of the three flex cables to the connectors on the logic board.
Adhere the main microphone adhesive to the enclosure. Ensure that the alignment of the holes is precise. Press the adhesive for 15 seconds before reinstalling the main microphone.
