If your Xsan service doesn’t work after you upgrade to macOS Sierra 10.12.2

Use this command to restore your Xsan service.

After you upgrade an Xsan 5 MDC to macOS Sierra 10.12.2 from macOS Sierra 10.12 or 10.12.1, the Xsan service on the MDC might not start. In Server App, you can toggle the switch for the Xsan service from Off to On, but Xsan volumes won’t start. After you refresh the view in Server app, the Xsan service reverts to the Off state.

This issue only affects Xsan 5 MDCs of SANs created in macOS Sierra. It doesn’t affect Xsan MDCs which have been upgraded from OS X El Capitan or earlier.

Restore your Xsan service on each MDC in the SAN

  1. Quit Server app.

  2. Open Terminal and run this command as the admin user:

    sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c 'delete :migratedVersion' -c 'add :migratedVersion integer 3' /Library/Preferences/Xsan/config.plist

  3. Launch Server app.

  4. Turn on Xsan.
