OS X Server: Speeding up new account creation in Server.app

Learn a tip for speeding up new account creation in Server.app.

Server.app does some intensive tasks in the background when a new account is created, processing services access, group relationships, and other capabilities.

If the time to create each new user account seems cumbersome, it may be possible to speed up the process by making a temporary change in workgroup settings.

  1. In Server.app, select "Groups" and double-click "Workgroup." This is the default group to which all new user accounts are assigned.

  2. If the checkbox for "Make group members Message buddies" is enabled, un-check it until you're done creating new users.

  3. After user accounts have been created, re-enable "Make group members Message buddies" if desired.

Server.app will process these connections all at once, and your new users will become chat buddies for the Messages service.
